Here in Lafayette it's the International Festival of Louisiana, with about 300,000 people going there each year. We will spend a few days celebrating with them.
The Louisiana International Festival is the largest outdoor francophone show in the United States. The Festival places special emphasis on highlighting the links between Acadiane and the French-speaking world. Every year, artists from around the world are invited to share their musical talents with Cajun musicians who perpetuate Cajun music, zydeco and swamp pop. The festival offers visitors culinary recipes and handicrafts made by Louisiana artists, and offered in the city center to the public and residents.
More than 1500 volunteers participate every year in the organization and the success of the festival. It takes place in April for a period of five days. The entire program of the festival seeks to celebrate cultural expression in its most varied forms and to encourage understanding and appreciation of different cultures. Festival performances are free for the public and aim to encourage the participation of the families of all those who attend this festival. The festival takes place in the historic downtown Lafayette. Six stages welcome music shows, and in the streets are set up Louisianian food stands, musicians and street entertainers.
